Safety and Wellbeing Manager | Reece Plumbing
With 634 branches across Australia and New Zealand, Ebony has faced the geographical challenge of connecting with people in the organisation and getting them to speak up about safety. Wanting to empower people in order to enable safety improvements, Ebony worked with her team of two to introduce a workplace community group called SafeR Moments.
SafeR Moments comprises people from branches across Australia and New Zealand, with differing safety cultures. Utilising Workplace by Facebook the group shares safety tips, safety fails, interesting articles and improvements. People share photos of what their branches do to improve safety, which inspired friendly competition to “do one better”.
To ensure the program meets the needs of the people and Senior Management, Ebony regularly discusses the value of SafeR with senior leaders, one who shared, “SafeR Moments has made exponential improvements to our safety culture around awareness and prevention. I really feel proud of our culture when branch staff and head office work together to put a focus on something and bring it to life so quickly”.
An enabler for safety conversations, SafeR Moments has empowered people to improve safety, by stopping unsafe acts and discussing poor safety practices. In 12 months, hazard reporting increased by 361% and injury rates have declined by 5%.
